Mentorship program ROSES celebrates start of a new year

Students from HISD mentoring program Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) were celebrated during  the second-annual ROSES kick-off event, “ Blooming Stronger,” on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Students and mentors  joined virtually from their HISD campuses to learn how the ROSES mentorship program can help them ”bloom stronger” in the face of challenges.

Hip-hop legend 50 Cent’s G-Unity Business Lab to help HISD youth

On Monday, the hip-hop world and HISD came together to help give back to the community at two separate events. At Wheatley High School, one of the biggest rap stars of the 2000s, 50 Cent, took his philanthropic efforts to HISD with the G-Unity Business Lab Kickoff.

Here’s how to vote for Nurse of the Month

HISD’s Office of Talent and HISD’s Health and Medical Services will honor an Elementary School Nurse of the Month, and a Secondary School Nurse of the Month each month.  We recognize outstanding nurses who go above and beyond the call of duty as well as care for students and staff on a daily basis. During the 2021-2022 school year, 16 outstanding nurses will receive the “Nurse of the Month” honor, which include public recognition.

Here’s how to take a virtual tour of School Choice programs

Houston ISD offers a variety of learning options for every child. All prospective parents and caregivers grades PK-12 are invited to take virtual tours of magnet schools. Three elementary schools designated ‘Pear-fect’ by state

Three HISD elementary schools were honored for their strong nutrition education programs with the Texas Department of Agriculture’s inaugural Pear-fection Awards.

The award was created to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of campus nutrition teams and their efforts to provide students with access to fresh produce and encourage life-long healthy habits.

Nutrition Services, military veterans join to plant seeds of hope on 9/11

As the sun rose over Mykawa Farm, Bernadette Plummer gathered with fellow military veterans to build garden beds where students can plant seeds and a gazebo to offer the young agriculturists shade from the Texas heat.

Nearby, other volunteers assembled outdoor teaching tables and a hoop house where seeds from HISD school garden will be kept warm enough to sprout in the winter.
