RISE Youth Summit for HISD’s mentorship programs set for April 1
Students from HISD’s mentorship programs Ascending to Men (ATM) and Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) will be celebrated during a virtual Youth Summit RISE: Realizing I’m Someone Exceptional.
The event will take place via zoom on Friday, April 1.
The zoom session for elementary schools is from 9-10 a.m.
The zoom session for middle and high schools is from 2-3 p.m.

Students from HISD mentoring program Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) were celebrated during the second-annual ROSES kick-off event, “ Blooming Stronger,” on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Students and mentors joined virtually from their HISD campuses to learn how the ROSES mentorship program can help them ”bloom stronger” in the face of challenges.

The Houston Independent School District’s Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) project on will host its spring professional women’s forum to discuss the strong communication and effective networking can shape a young woman’s life.
The forum’s discussion panel will be moderated by ABC 13 News Weekend Anchor and Reporter Erica Simon, who also serves as a ROSES mentor. The event, which will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Kashmere High School (6900 Wileyvale Road, 77028), will feature panelists who are leaders from various fields, including an immigration attorney, a community relations expert, a law enforcement officer, as well as a ROSES student from Navarro Middle School.

As he waited for the night to begin, Tyler Burgmon, a senior at North Forest High School, nervously adjusted a red rose pinned to the lapel of the first suit he’s ever owned.
A new suit can provide confidence and self-assurance, but for Tyler, a student enrolled in HISD’s Ascending to Men Project (ATMP), it stands for so much more.
“This suit is an extension of what ATMP does for you,” he said. “ATMP creates men; it creates a foundation where you can be safe in your community and build powerful bonds between brothers.”

HISD’s Ascending to Men Project and ROSES will host their first joint winter ball on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Minute Maid Park.
Under the umbrella of HISD’s Equity and Outreach Division, the Ascending to Men Project (ATMP) and Resilient Outstanding Sister Exemplifying Success (ROSES) are both mentorship initiatives that provide positive role models and advocates for students who need guidance and opportunities for educational, social, and professional growth to underserved young men and women in the district.

The Houston Independent School District’s Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) project on Thursday will host its first professional women’s forum to discuss the effects of social media on education and society, especially as it relates to the well-being of young, underserved female students.
The forum’s discussion panel will be moderated by Telemundo News Anchor Ingrid Barrera. The event, which will begin at 6 p.m. at Sterling Aviation Early College High School (11625 Martindale Road, 77048), will feature panelists who are leaders from various fields, including an attorney, an entrepreneur, a police officer, a social worker, and a human resources professional.

The Houston Independent School District announced its newest student mentorship program, Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES), at a kick-off event on Thursday at Jack Yates High School with elected officials, community partners, and educators.
ROSES is the sister program of the Ascending to Men Project (ATMP) and seeks to provide positive role models and advocates to underserved young women offering them guidance and opportunities for educational, social, and professional growth.
