The Pre-K Parent Palooza is an exciting event for pre-K parents and caregivers to meet experts in the early childhood field and receive social and emotional board books, make and take activities, and a Pre-K Parent Guide with quick at-home ideas to enhance their child’s socio-emotional, math, and literacy skills.

HISD partners with Rockets, military to upgrade Blackshear ES book rooms

On the heels of Veterans Day, volunteers with the Houston Rockets and U.S. military spent a day at Blackshear Elementary transforming several book rooms for students and teachers.

The day of service is in partnership with the NBA’s Hoops for Troops program that puts teams to work alongside military members with the goal of helping to better communities.

National STEM Day: Project-based learning at HISD’s Energy Institute

Nov. 8 is National STEM Day, but at Energy Institute High School, every day is about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The STEM-focused magnet follows an interdisciplinary instruction model that blends science, math, and language arts into project-based learning. This year, students are learning about ancient architecture and civilizations in English and history and using that as inspiration to create their own modern “world wonders” that exemplify Houston culture.

District of Innovation Committee Advances Draft Innovation Plan to District Advisory Committee for Review and Feedback

Monday afternoon, HISD’s District of Innovation (DOI) Committee sent to the District Advisory Committee (DAC) a draft plan for HISD to become a DOI. The draft plan is designed to support the District’s progress toward Destination 2035, where every student graduates prepared to succeed in the modern workplace and world.

To ensure transparency, we are releasing the draft publicly here, even though changes will likely be made before the final plan is posted, voted on by the DAC and HISD School Board, and submitted to the Texas Education Agency.

HISD partners with BakerRipley to open Sunrise Center in West Division

HISD launched its sixth of seven Sunrise Centers Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the BakerRipley Gulfton-Sharpstown Campus in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and luncheon.

This center will connect communities in HISD’s West Division with vital resources, programs, and services.
