HISD and Astros Foundation team up for graduation retention

HISD’s Sunrise Centers collaborated with the Astros Foundation for the District’s fourth annual Phone Bank event on June 18. The goal is to reach out to students who have either dropped out of school or not registered for the new school year and inform them of the options and resources available to help on their path to high school graduation.

HISD to host second annual Pride Summit

Houston Independent School District will host its second annual Pride Summit for students grades 6-12 and their parents and caregivers on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Pride Summit is a virtual event which offers participants a unique opportunity to support LGBTQ+ students and cultivate relationships within the community through education and advocacy.

The summit will be held via Zoom to best accommodate participants throughout the district and ensure that everyone can attend the summit safely and privately.

Nutrition Services special events planner supports staff, students


Special Events Planner Nicole Bean supports staff and students through her role with Nutrition Services.

Special Events Planner Nicole Bean has always been an organizer at heart, and that’s how she approaches scheduling and planning events in HISD’s catering department Houston Eats. 

Bean is responsible for planning and overseeing events and creating the orders for them. Her attention to detail and ability to accommodate the needs of Houston Eats’ customers has proven to be an asset in her role.  

“If you have 30 schools that want something all at the same time, it’s physically hard to be at all those places,” Bean said. “We only have so many delivery vans, so we have to be really creative in how we schedule. We also offer pickups. We really do try to accommodate everybody.”
