Parents invited to virtual Autism Services Meeting on March 31

The Office of Special Education Services invites parents of students with Autism to a virtual meeting March 31, 2022, from 9:30–11 a.m.

The meeting is being held to celebrate the start of Autism Acceptance Month and World Autism Awareness Day by exploring all about sensory integration and how it can assist students on the Autism spectrum.

Get to know the HISD Office of Talent Teacher Appreciation Award winner from Fondren MS

The HISD Office of Talent presented Fondren Middle School’s Andrew Houston with its Teacher Appreciation Award.

“Mr. Houston, we have a surprise for you,” said Principal Meagan Edwards as she opened the door to Houston’s Special Skills classroom.

Representatives from the Office of Talent presented Houston, a dedicated Special Education teacher of all grade levels, with a gift basket and tickets to a Rockets game.

Superintendent House to deliver his first State of the Schools address

The Houston Independent School District Foundation’s annual State of the Schools will be in person this year and focus on the road ahead for the district with a new superintendent at the helm.

The event will take place Friday, March 11, from 11:40 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Marriott Marquis Houston.

Prekindergarten application fair draws a crowd as parents take steps to enroll their 3- and 4-year-olds

More than 600 families made the step to set their 3- and 4-year-olds up for success on Saturday by applying for prekindergarten in HISD. All elementary and early childhood campuses across the district opened their doors to provide in-person, one-on-one support to families through the application process. Support was also available over the phone and virtually.

Nutrition Services adds some sweetness to a Valentine’s Day nutritional demonstration at Shadydale ES

The library went silent as a gaggle of Shadydale Elementary third-grade students readied to bite into what was, for most of them, their very first beet. In the quiet, more than forty pairs of little teeth tentatively picked into sliced beet sticks with audible crunches. Thanks to the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), Shadydale students are veritable pros at trying new things.
