Bullying Prevention Week is Oct. 25-29
As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, HISD is recognizing the week of Oct. 25-29 as Bullying Prevention Week to bring attention to a growing epidemic of bullying and social isolation. The district’s Social and Emotional Learning department (SEL) is working to encourage students and parents to join in the campaign to stop bullying.
HISD hosting custodial worker job fair Oct.23
HISD Facilities Services is hosting a districtwide custodial job fair and recruitment drive at three locations on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Interested individuals can apply online at HoustonISD.org/careers or in person at North Forest, Sharpstown, or Milby high schools the day of the fair.

To recognize the importance of eliminating pandemic-related learning loss, the HISD is doubling extra-duty pay for teachers providing academic tutorials for students.
Effective the week of Nov. 1, 2021, the extra-duty pay for teachers providing academic tutorials will increase from $25 to $50 per hour. The extra-duty pay rate for non-tutorial tasks will remain $25 per hour.

During its regularly scheduled meeting, the Board of Education approved several agreements that will expand educational opportunities for Houston Independent School District students.
One agreement will allow the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to provide specialized adjunct faculty to support the expansion of project-based instruction at campuses with agriculture Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study. The high-school campuses included in this program are Bellaire, Chavez, Furr, Harper Alternative School, Lamar, Madison, North Forest, Sharpstown, Washington, Westside, and Worthing.

The fall semester is well underway in HISD, and it is the district’s commitment to ensure students make it to and from school safely each day. In recognition of National School Bus Safety Week from Oct. 18-22, HISD recognizes the importance of school bus safety and thanks all bus drivers who dedicate themselves to the safe transport of our students. The national program “Be Safe – Know the Danger Zone” is designed to promote safety and serve as a reminder that we can all do our part to ensure students are safe in and around a school bus.
