The Houston Independent School District is launching an initiative to improve the district’s School Choice process and develop a plan to make it more family-friendly, efficient, and equitable.
With support from Houston Endowment, the project will entail gathering input and feedback from families, students, and district administration and campus staff to better understand what is working well regarding School Choice and to identify areas of improvement. In addition, data and district guidelines and policies related to School Choice will be examined.
The fair will be held online at HoustonISD.org/PreKindergartenFair on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The meeting comes in advance of the April 30 deadline for Phase 1 applications for pre-kindergarten students.
Through a partnership with NASA that launched in 2017, HISD’s Office of School Choice entered into an agreement with the agency to support five aerospace campuses, opening up a vast array of resources for students.
Through this agreement, Davila Elementary School, Wesley Elementary School, Deady Middle School, Milby High School, and Washington High School have received access to highly sought-after NASA mission content, education resources, and authentic learning experiences.
