College Readiness wraps up 2015–2016 with resounding success

The HISD College Readiness Dept. works closely with HISD high schools to create and maintain a college-bound culture. The district saw a major increase in college applications and FAFSA completions this past school year, with a 23-percentage-point increase in college applications over last year and a 10-percentage-point increase in financial-aid applications. With HISD graduation week upon us, the Houston Independent School District Police Department wants to remind students and parents to be safe during festivities. “While this is a memorable and exciting time for many families, we want to remind everyone throughout HISD to plan for safe celebrations,” HISD Chief of Police Robert Mock said.

Nutrition Services jumps into action to help schools affected by flooding

During the recent heavy storms that swept the Houston area and the resulting flooding, Nutrition Services staff members were quick to respond. Some HISD schools were left soggy and unable to prepare student meals in their school’s cafeterias. Cue the Nutrition Services shipping kitchen, 800 sack lunches were prepared in fewer than 15 minutes.
