G-Unity Business Lab students compete in inaugural Hustle Tank event

The 60 students from Kashmere, Wheatley, and Worthing High Schools that make up the G-Unity Business Lab competed in the inaugural Hustle Tank event on Tuesday, May 25, at University of Houston’s Cullen Performance Hall.

The competition is set up much like the TV show Shark Tank. Throughout the school year, the students created business plans for their companies, collaborated with coaches and mentors, and prepared pitches for the Hustle Tank judges, including rapper and G-Unity Founder, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

HISD middle schools welcome next-generation emerging tech labs from Verizon

The Houston Independent School District has unveiled three new Verizon Innovative Learning Labs at Holland, Edison, and Patrick Henry Middle Schools, thanks to partnerships with Verizon, Heart of America, and the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at Arizona State University.

Parents and caregivers invited to a live preview of new SchoolFinder tool

All pre-K through Grade 12 parents and caregivers are invited to attend a live walkthrough of HISD’s new SchoolFinder tool and provide feedback. SchoolFinder is expected to launch in Summer 2022, and the insight from HISD families is valuable ahead of implementation.

HISD to become one of the most competitive districts in the region under Superintendent House’s new compensation plan

Raising teacher and staff salaries in HISD is a top commitment within the district’s five-year strategic plan. In order to meet that commitment, Superintendent Millard House II announced an update to the compensation plan that will make all HISD salaries among the most competitive in the region.

During a news conference on Thursday, May 26, House revealed current teachers on average will receive an 11% raise this summer.
