Raising teacher salaries in HISD is a top commitment within the district’s new, five-year strategic plan. In February, HISD announced a compensation plan with cost-of-living updates and step increases for the next three years. HISD is raising teacher salaries by 17% between now and 2024.

Daniel Lara is no stranger to hard work. Beginning his career with HISD as a maintenance repairer in 2016, Lara is one of two team members who oversee all the district’s playgrounds. Lara has expanded his responsibilities to include pest control, bleachers, sprinklers, irrigation, and carpentry wherever his skills are required.

Seven educators have been named as HISD’s 2021-2022 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year finalists, and three teachers have been named the Beginning Teachers of the Year.
The 10 finalists were selected from all 276 schools based on performance and other criteria. Two finalists will be announced as the HISD Teachers of the Year winners for 2021-2022 and will go on to represent the district in Region IV.

HISD launching RISE transformation cohort at underperforming schools
As part of Houston Independent School District’s new five-year strategic plan, the district is taking the next steps to ensure there are great schools in every community while cultivating world-class talent at all levels.
In order to meet the commitment of permanently improving every D- and F-performing campus, HISD is transforming how it serves those students by launching the RISE transformation cohort beginning in School Year 2022-2023.
