Food service attendant honored with May Customer Service Impact Award on School Lunch Hero Day

Yabidia Guerra was worried that she was in trouble when Principal Jose Santos and Instructional Specialist Roberto Leyva told her they needed to speak with her in the cafeteria on Friday, May 6.  But, when she walked in, the food service attendant at Middle College High School at Felix Fraga was received by a room full of her cheering colleagues as she was presented with the May 2022 Customer Service Impact Award.

Daniel Lara is no stranger to hard work. Beginning his career with HISD as a maintenance repairer in 2016, Lara is one of two team members who oversee all the district’s playgrounds. Food service attendant receives October Customer Service Impact Award

Each morning, food service attendant Pamela Cole makes her way down the special education hallway at Milby High School to serve a nutritious breakfast to her favorite students, each of whom she knows by name. 

One day, Nutrition Services Team Lead Mari Thibodeaux assigned someone else to that hallway. 

“The teacher called and said her students were waiting for Ms. Pam,” Thibodeaux said. “Can you believe they didn’t want anyone but her? It’s because she exudes excellence in all that she does.”

Facilities Services and Fleet Operations employee’s desire to help leads to 47 years of service

Sherry Jones

As one of the longest-serving employees in Facilities Services and Fleet Operations, Sherry Jones’ career is fueled by a desire to be of service and to help wherever she can.

Jones – an administrative assistant – has been with HISD for 47 years. In that time, she’s worked with 15 managers and under the leadership of 11 superintendents, working hard to ensure her department is always properly supported.

According to Jones, her strong work ethic and desire to be of service was instilled by wise words from her mother that she carried with her throughout her career.
