Annual Grads Within Reach Walk aims to bring students back to school

On Saturday, volunteers will spend the morning visiting students who stopped attending school to encourage them to return and graduate. HISD’s annual Grads Within Reach Walk is an opportunity for community members to come together to keep students in school.

The walk is organized by HISD’s Dropout Prevention/Recovery team which works together with community partners and other HISD departments to set students up for success.

HISD parents and caregivers asked to complete Student Annual Verification

As we begin the 2022-2023 school year, all HISD parents and caregivers must complete the Student Annual Verification to ensure student information is accurate and up to date.

The Student Annual Verification is now available on the HISD Connect Parent Portal and must be completed by Friday, October 28.

HISD Nutrition Services earns top 10 spot in international challenge

HISD’s Nutrition Services Department is committed to mitigating inequity in childhood nutrition in the Houston area. Since the inception of Mykawa Farm, home to the department’s Food and Agriculture Literacy Center, Nutrition Services has prioritized practical and tangible uses for the education they provide through the Get Growing Houston program.

Nutrition Services recently took their ideas to a global stage, reaching top 10 in the Healthy Childhood Challenge (HCC). The international competition launched by Novo Nordisk in collaboration with UNICEF calls for ideas designed to improve the nutritional, physical, and emotional well-being of children in their home environments.

League of Women Voters turn up to register students during first week of school

HISD believes in teaching students the value of their civic duty. Every year, the district makes a concentrated effort to help eligible students register to vote. This year, during the first week of school, volunteers with the Texas League of Women Voters (LWV) visited every HISD high school to support that effort.

HISD asking parents to complete socioeconomic form for the 2022-2023 school year

The Houston Independent School District will provide free breakfast and lunch to students in the Community Eligibility Provision Program (CEP) for the 2022-2023 school year, but all parents/caregivers will still need to fill out a new socioeconomic form (SIF).

It can be completed online via the HISD Parent Portal or submitted in a paper form to their campus.

Incentive-based RAK room unveiled at Revere MS

Students at Revere Middle School are returning to an exciting new campus addition in the 2022-2023 school year. In collaboration with Houston Random Acts of Kindness, HISD Wraparound Services unveiled the district’s first RAK Room.
