Nutrition Services hosts elementary and middle schoolers for Food and Agriculture Literacy Harvest Festival

The Food and Agriculture Literacy Center at Mykawa Farm is a labor of love made possible by HISD’s dedicated Nutrition Services Department. Mykawa caretakers welcomed two classes from Young Elementary School and Attucks Middle School for a Fall Harvest Festival to celebrate a successful planting season.

DeBakey HS celebrates 50 years of education for health professions

HISD’s DeBakey High School opened in 1972 and was the first high school for health professions in the country. This year, the school and its alumni are celebrating its 50th anniversary. The celebrations will feature career presentations from 50 DeBakey High School alumni and several events coordinated by parents and alumni.

51 HISD seniors named semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship Program

The National Merit Scholarship Program has selected 51 Houston Independent School District seniors as semifinalists for the 2022-2023 scholarship competition year. The scholarship program gives seniors the opportunity to compete for about 7,250 monetary scholarships to help jumpstart their college careers.

The 20 people gathered in the Yates High School foyer on Friday, Oct. 7, might not have appeared to have much in common. But beyond their matching red t-shirts and tiaras, the alumni are all recipients of the school’s most illustrious honor: being crowned Mister or Miss Yates.
