Pre-sale tickets are being sold at campuses at $4 for students and $6 for adults, but will cost $8 at the gate. The only exceptions are the Lamar-Morton Ranch and Madison-Katy showdowns at Katy ISD’s Rhodes Stadium, which will cost $5 for students and $10 for adults, and the Bellaire vs. Cinco Ranch game, which is $4 for students and $6 for adults in pre-sale but $5 for students and $10 for adults at the gate.
Here’s the rundown of this week’s playoffs. We’ll let you know next Monday who has made the second round.
Master Chef Causes a Sweet Stir at Westside HS
An accomplished master chef who once worked at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel led about 80 culinary arts students in a series of “sweet” exercises on Sept. 27, when he came to Westside High School as part of the Culinary Institute of America’s Ambassadors program.
Students Dig in to Mock Drilling Exercise at PetroChallenge
More than 150 sophomores from Milby HS, Westside HS, and the Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) in Houston ISD and Southwest HS in Fort Worth ISD competed in the fifth annual PetroChallenge held Sept. 20.
The computer simulation exercise, which took place this year at the Houston Community College’s Alief Campus, asks teams of students to form an energy company entering a new oil and gas field. Starting with $200 million in funds, their goal is to achieve the highest company value by finding oil or gas and investing in other teams’ opportunities.

A dozen students from Westside High School did their part to improve international relations this summer when they participated in a program sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The students spent ten days exploring that island nation in July through the Kakehashi Project/Bridge for Tomorrow, a program designed to cultivate a more positive relationship between the U.S. and Japan through youth cultural exchange.

Students perform an original song as part of the Westside Integrated Theatre's semester-ending play.
In Aesop’s Fable, “The Bundle of Sticks,” a man teaches the importance of unity and strength to his sons by having them each break individual sticks rather than failing to break a bundle of sticks.
On Tuesday morning at Westside High School, the students of the Westside Integrated Theatre displayed their own unity and collective strength on stage, performing their own interpretations of the tales credited to the ancient Greek storyteller.
