Barbara Bush Literary Foundation marks major milestone at Scarborough ES

Scarborough Elementary School made history when it received the Barbara Bush Literary Foundation’s 100,000th My Home Library. During a celebration on campus, all 620 students received a My Home Library package, which featured six new books for students to start their own collection at home.

December’s Customer Service Impact Award winner recognized for double effort

Nutrition Services has been relying on the accuracy and dependability of Team Lead Anna Acuña in two kitchens at the same time.

Students at two HISD campuses, Browning and Burrus elementary schools, have been able to count on Acuña for her steady hand in everything from supply ordering to recipe preparation for the last two years.

Every senior member of the Worthing HS band earns $50,000 scholarships to Langston University

All nine senior members of the Worthing High School Marching Pride of Sunnyside Band earned scholarships to play for Langston University during a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Oklahoma for band tryouts.

On Friday Nov. 12, all 60 members of the band, including its dancers, traveled to Langston University, which is a historically black college 40 miles north of Oklahoma City. It was an event that was by invitation only.

HISD to distribute food, supplies for the holidays on Dec. 11

HISD Community Partnerships is joining local organizations to spread holiday cheer, food, and supplies in a drive-through distribution event. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Hattie Mae White east parking lot, families in the community are welcome to pick up a variety of items.

Patrick Henry MS student takes home historic No.1 finish at Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza

Patrick Henry Middle School’s Alan Aguilar’s co-first-place vocal finish at the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza was more than just taking home the No. 1 spot in the biggest event of the year, but a representation of the deep culture of the mariachi that is important to many HISD students.
