Employees honored for promoting a culture of Service Excellence in HISD

In a special luncheon Tuesday, nine employees from across different Business Operations departments were honored for their work in promoting a culture of Service Excellence within HISD.

The event follows a year of trainings held by the nine employees to introduce the mission and standards of Service Excellence to their fellow employees. In all, more than 5,270 people have been trained in Service Excellence since the initiative launched in April.

HISD Transportation hosting mobile recruitment event to hire bus drivers

BusDrivers_440x230The Houston Independent School District is kicking off a weeklong mobile recruitment event to hire additional bus drivers for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. Four HISD mobile hiring buses are scheduled to make appearances at 18 locations throughout Houston, where qualified candidates may be hired on the spot.

All new school bus drivers will receive at least 30 hours of paid training throughout the school year and are eligible for financial incentive payments, including a $250 sign-on bonus and a $900 attendance incentive.

Business Operations announces ‘Service Excellence’ Employees of the Month

Five HISD Business Operations employees were celebrated as Employees of the Month for May during the department’s breakfast with HISD’s Chief Operating Officer Leo Bobadilla on Tuesday.

Every month, five individuals from the areas of Transportation, Police, Nutrition Services, Construction and Facilities Services, and Business Assistance are selected to attend “Breakfast with Leo.” The event serves as a way to recognize district employees who go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service.

High School Ahead Academy bus driver Clarissa Davis had no idea she would be recognized for going above and beyond her daily route assignment to help a student in need.

But Davis and four other HISD employees and volunteers were honored for their services during a special luncheon held on April 30. She says she has only been with the district since last November and was surprised to discover she would be receiving an award for simply doing her job.

“I’m really humbled,” Davis said. “I just treat students how I would want anyone else to treat my own children.”

The Houston Independent School District’s Transportation Department recently was named a recipient of District Administration magazine’s 2014 Districts of Distinction award.

Districts of Distinction is a new national recognition program created by the publication to honor school districts that are demonstrating education excellence with innovative approaches and ideas that work.

Instead, HISD Transportation’s Senior Manager of Fleet Operations uses his knowledge of mechanics and personal journey to inspire his employees and students. With many accolades, including over 30 years’ experience in fleet management, numerous certifications and serving as the first Hispanic to hold a senior level management position with HISD Transportation, Montes is committed to service excellence. KHOU Surprise Squad delivers breakfast to HISD bus drivers

Drivers, mechanics and staff members cheered as KHOU reporters Chita Johnson and Mia Gradney handed out more than 400 burritos, courtesy of Breakfast Burritos Anonymous.
