Waltrip HS Engineering Program recognized for high number of certifications

The engineering application company SOLIDWORKS recognized Waltrip High School for having one of the highest number of CSWA certifications in the state.

Representatives from SOLIDWORKS, Lab Resources, and Houston ISD’s Career and Technical Education Department visited the campus and its engineering students on Wednesday.

‘When I Grow Up’ career expo to be held April 23

Dozens of exhibitors from local companies will be on hand to help students explore their options in high-demand, high-growth industries at the tenth annual “When I Grow Up” career expo.

This year, the event returns to in-person and will take place Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 W. 18th Street, 77092). All HISD students in grades K-12 and their parents are invited.

The Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented has designated April 4-8 as Gifted and Talented Awareness Week to encourage support for gifted education in Texas.

HISD is celebrating by highlighting how the Gifted and Talented programs are benefiting some of the district’s more than 29,000 G/T students.

RISE Youth Summit for HISD’s mentorship programs set for April 1

Students from HISD’s mentorship programs Ascending to Men (ATM) and Resilient Outstanding Sisters Exemplifying Success (ROSES) will be celebrated during a virtual Youth Summit RISE: Realizing I’m Someone Exceptional.

The event will take place via zoom on Friday, April 1.

The zoom session for elementary schools is from 9-10 a.m.

The zoom session for middle and high schools is from 2-3 p.m.

HISD hosts inaugural summit for LGBTQ+ students

Houston ISD held its first-ever Virtual #HISDPride Summit on Saturday, April 9. Students grades 6-12 and their parents/caregivers were invited to attend. In addition to providing a day of learning, accountability, and validation, the purpose of this summit was to ensure that attendees walk away with the tools necessary to either navigate life as an LGBTQ+ student or support an LGBTQ+ student.
