HISD high schools ranked among the best by U.S. News & World Report

Two HISD high schools are among the top 100 in America, and 11 are in the top 100 in Texas. The annual rankings were released this week by U.S. News & World Report.

HISD Maintenance repairer honored with April Customer Service Impact Award

Daniel Lara is no stranger to hard work. Beginning his career with HISD as a maintenance repairer in 2016, Lara is one of two team members who oversee all the district’s playgrounds. Lara has expanded his responsibilities to include pest control, bleachers, sprinklers, irrigation, and carpentry wherever his skills are required.

Reducing waste by increasing awareness: HISD holds Reduce, Reuse, Recycle training event

HISD facilities and maintenance staff and plant operators gathered at Barnett Stadium on Tuesday, April 12, to attend a training event hosted by HISD’s Energy and Sustainability Department in partnership with Republic Waste. The training included a slideshow moderated by Republic Services Operations Manager Fernando Cedillo, who presented simultaneously in English and in Spanish.

Summer Student Leadership Program accepting applications from HISD high school students, district alumni

HISD is now accepting applications for its 2022 Summer Student Leadership Program, a five-week paid summer internship and leadership development program for HISD high school students and alumni currently enrolled in college. 

Waltrip HS Engineering Program recognized for high number of certifications

The engineering application company SOLIDWORKS recognized Waltrip High School for having one of the highest number of CSWA certifications in the state. Representatives from SOLIDWORKS, Lab Resources, and Houston ISD’s Career and Technical Education Department visited the campus and its engineering students on Wednesday.
