The NCAA and Houston Local Organizing Committee have teamed up with HISD to bring a fun-filled weekend of events to Houston families in celebration of the Men’s Final Four National Championship taking place April 1-3, 2023, at NRG Stadium.
On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced the Texas Education Agency will replace Houston Independent School District’s Board of Trustees and Superintendent Millard House II.

The student teams will be led by the Westside, Worthing, Wheatley, and Waltrip High School coaches who will be joined by some surprise celebrity coaches.
The 1998 Waltrip High School state championship basketball team was honored at the 2023 UIL Basketball State Tournament on Saturday, March 11, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Nothing excites students like music first thing in the morning, but before they can dance along, they need to fuel up! HISD students have access to school-provided breakfasts every day, but this week, their morning meal came with some exciting additions.
School Breakfast Week (SBW) is observed annually in the springtime to recognize the important impact that regular, balanced breakfasts have on students’ ability to learn and thrive. This year, SBW took place March 6-10, and HISD’s Nutrition Services Department brought the fun to elementary schools throughout the district to celebrate with students and staff.
Continue readingIn many ways, 10-year-old Shiloh Balasuriya is an average fourth grader. His favorite things to do are read books and play outside, and when he grows up, he has ambitions of being a world-famous chef. Shiloh has a lot in common with his other classmates at T.H. Rogers School, but this year, he was the only student from HISD to place in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s annual Trailblazer Writing Competition.
In honor of International Women’s Day, HISD’s Career Readiness Department hosted its first Girls in Industry Day on Wednesday, March 8, at the HISD Pavilion to educate students on career opportunities.
