12 HISD Football Teams Head Into Playoffs

Those Friday Night Lights will continue to shine – on Thursday and Saturday nights, too – for 12 HISD varsity squads that are extending their seasons into playoff games this week.

Pre-sale tickets are being sold at campuses at $4 for students and $6 for adults, but will cost $8 at the gate. The only exceptions are the Lamar-Morton Ranch and Madison-Katy showdowns at Katy ISD’s Rhodes Stadium, which will cost $5 for students and $10 for adults, and the Bellaire vs. Cinco Ranch game, which is $4 for students and $6 for adults in pre-sale but $5 for students and $10 for adults at the gate.

Here’s the rundown of this week’s playoffs. We’ll let you know next Monday who has made the second round.

Reagan Bulldogs Make History Again After 54 Years

The last time the Reagan High School Bulldogs won a football title, gas was 25 cents a gallon, Dwight D. Eisenhower was president, and the U.S. had just named its first crop of potential astronauts.

The year was 1959, and 2013 will go down in Reagan history with the same milestone, as the Reagan varsity squad notched its first district championship in 54 years Nov. 2 in a hard fought homecoming battle with rival Waltrip High School at Delmar-Tusa Stadium.

The game ended with Reagan holding on to a 28-14 victory, with a perfect district season record of 7-0, and with Coach Stephen Dixon drenched in celebratory Gatorade.

HISD Board of Education Election Results

Incumbent Trustees Anna Eastman and Harvin Moore will keep their seats on the Houston Independent School District Board of Education after beating their challengers, according to final, but unofficial results of Tuesday’s election.

Former City Councilwoman Wanda Adams also won a seat on the HISD Board of Education, beating out two opponents to fill the District IX spot being vacated by departing Trustee Larry Marshall. Trustees Greg Meyers and Michael Lunceford were unopposed in their re-election bids.

College fairs are a great way to collect information about potential schools – students can meet face to face with college representatives, ask pertinent questions, and even get insider tips on how to get admitted to the school of their choice.

Reagan HS and Hogg MS Celebrate IB Authorization

Reagan High School and Hogg Middle School are the two latest HISD campuses to receive official authorization to operate as International Baccalaureate World Schools. The announcement, which came on July 5, creates the first continuous IB feeder pattern in the historic Heights neighborhood. Students now can begin the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Harvard Elementary and then progress to Hogg Middle School and Reagan High School for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

Students edit their future in Apple-certified lab

Students edit videos in Reagan High School's Apple-certified lab

Reagan High School’s Apple Authorized Training Center is helping students who dream of working in television and film get closer to their goals.

The school offers video editing as a track in its technology magnet program.

“We determined that Apple’s Final Cut Pro was the freshest and most popular high-end video software on the market,” said Michael Shea, a teacher in Reagan’s Digital Media Center.

The school wanted students to be able to be certified in Final Cut Pro, so it embarked on a mission to become an Apple Authorized Training Center.

Hundreds volunteer at schools for Deloitte’s annual ‘Impact Day’

Class may be out for the summer, but three Houston ISD schools kept their doors open on Friday, June 7, 2013, as roughly 300 Deloitte employees poured in to beautify the campuses as part of the company’s annual ‘Impact Day’ service project. The Deloitte volunteers divided themselves between Wharton Elementary, Hamilton Middle, and Reagan High School and spent the day providing both aesthetic and functional improvements to the schools.

Eight schools are participating in this weekend’s parade

Students at the Billy Reagan K-8 Education Center are putting the finishing touches on an after school art project that will soon be seen by thousands of Houstonians. HISD Recognizes Top Six JROTC Cadets in HISD Class of 2013

Students come from HSLECJ, Lamar, Reagan, SHMSTC, Scarborough, and Waltrip

HISD’s JROTC program formally honored its top six cadets from the Class of 2013 during the Annual HISD JROTC Final Review and Awards Ceremony on April 20.

The students were chosen from the ranks of all graduating seniors in HISD’s 25 JROTC programs and all were promoted to Cadet Colonel, which is the highest rank attainable in the JROTC program. Continue reading →
