HISD celebrates 100th day of school with costumes, decorations, and parades

When Principal Jose Cordova announced over the PA that it was time for the parade to begin, an earth-shaking cheer arose from the students at Memorial Elementary School on Feb. 9, the 100th day of school for HISD.

Memorial’s students range from pre-K to fifth grade, and every student hit the hallway with excitement. Some dressed as 100-year-old versions of themselves, carrying posters and wearing paper hats and costumes in celebration of 100 successful school days down.

It’s a Game Changer: Parent Organization Expo gets parents involved and empowered

The 2023 Parent Organization Expo, held on Feb. 4, was met with explosive enthusiasm by HISD PTO and would-be PTO members. Nearly 600 people attended the expo at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center which was the first of its kind to be held in person. PTOs from across the district gathered to network and learn how to be more effectively involved in their child’s education.

Motocross star donates bicycles to elementary schools to encourage active lifestyles

When Woodson PK-5 Leadership Academy received word that their PE program was receiving a fleet of bicycles for their students, Principal Gina R. Wilkins was ecstatic. Her excitement turned to shock when she discovered that half of her staff never learned how to ride a bicycle.

Attendance policy: HISD students must attend 90% of school days

Houston Independent School District is dedicated to academic achievement and success for all scholars. Regular student attendance is critically important. Students who are absent lose instructional seat time, creating a lost opportunity to learn, ask questions, and engage in class activities.
